WORK EXPERIENCE

Novellus Systems
Software Controls Engineer

08/07/2009 - 08/20/2011
Bangalore

Worked in the Control System team of Novellus Systems, which is a semiconductor equipment manufacturer head quartered at San Jose. I was part of a small international team developing next-gen control automation system.

  • Developed a Linux Kernel Module in C++ to interface an open source control automation stack called EtherCAT with the Novellus' control system. This prototype met the realtime requirement of 1 ms I/O read/write rate and compelled Novellus to invest in the EtherCAT based next-gen control system.

  • Implemented a command protocol translator using design patterns in Java to translate the proprietary "Novellus Protocol" to EtherCAT. I profiled the code running over PERC JVM and optimized the program hot-spots to ensure reduced late timers.

  • Proposed developing an automated TCP packet analysis framework as an alternative to manual control system testing. On appreciation of this idea by our team, implemented the automated test bench in C++.This project saved 60% of testing time for Novellus.

  • Complete SDLC experience including translating business requirement into technical specs, design documentation, unit testing using Junit, performing regression testing and bug reporting. Documented the Novellus command protocol functional Spec and authored test plan documents.

Sun Microsystems
Intern

01/07/2007 - 30/06/2009
Hubli/Bangalore

  • Implemented a location based realtime inventory of servers in the SUN Data Center using SUN Spots - Java programmable wireless sensor network devices and RFID. This system dynamically kept records of the physical location of each server and minimized 30% housekeeping effort.

  • Was trained on Solaris and Java and delivered hands-on workshops on the same in our college to evangelize these opensource technologies.

  • Initiated an opensource promotion event called Software Freedom Week to promote open source technologies to students and NGOs.
